Midweek Moooons

Pre Store Opening Music Selections: Various Artists,V Forever Baby ! Double cd of Jungle highlighting tunes from the V record label. Hooked up by DJ Bryan Gee,Soulfuric Sessions, and also Maspyke,I'm really liking that.

Joy of joys another middle of the week has arrived. Hmmm lets see. There's seems to be some mix up in terms of the correct release date for the Tony Yayo Lp. One dist says it was this Tues another says next Tuesday along with the LP for Kanye & Rihahaha. The fun never ends. And speaking of Yayo, first day sales for our spot were not that impressive. Maybe that torrential rain scared all the customers away, yeah thats it. It was the rain.

So I mentioned the other day that I was hanging up the posterboard thingeees, what I forgot to mention that during my search for posters/display materials (I have to search because fearless leader tends to hide/hoard em sometimes) I came across his paper trail of doom. All the stuff that he prints out from the internet. A few billion articles in regards to raids, some enforcement bulletins, emails, and the packet of info in regards to his case that the lawyer picked up from the police. Man isht is thick! There's the witness statements and quite a few other items of interest, including fearless leaders mugshot! One thing of interest was that theu started investigating our spot in March.

Well thats all for now,got to throw together a couple of orders to load up for the long weekend. Are we open on Monday? Thats a good question

Tuesday subsection 9B

Pre store opening musical selection: More of the Groove Junkies House of OM-I thinik it hits stores next week, damn they tossed some Latin House tracks...nice, Checked out some advance stuff Ceasar Comanche upcoming release Squirrel And The Aces,Big Tone
The Drought, not bad had heard a tune from him earlier that didn't grab me,but after hearin all of his stuff i paid some more attention, was doing the short bus head nod to Maspyke yeah they hail from western mass, hmmm

Ah yes did the Tuesday ritual as usual. Dragged out the ladder grabbed the bucket of coffeebeans and placed..oh wait wrong ritual. Lemme explain fearless leader hates the smell of coffee so maybe as a present, I would take some coffee beans or freshly gound and dump em in the ceiling tilesnear the ac hvac ducts. But I digress, hung up the posterboards for the Kan Wizzy, Rihahaha, and Tony Yaygo, attached the Slim Bug, and Young Jizzzy to the backs, to save some air space, then proceeded to see how foggy I could get the windows with the ac on. Gotta love the humidity.

Whoooo Hooooo look at all the folks banging on the front door to get those new releases, youd thin they were giving away free money or something. Well actually there aint no one at the dore except for a hella lot of rain drops. Man and we haven't even gotten the remnants of Katreezy yet. Gotta give it up to the NY post for their Big Queasy headline the other day, i was in tears from laughing so hard. Oops I slid off the subject again. Well maybe it's to early and folks don't want to venture out in the rain, yeah thats it.

And before I forget, I must thank realcountrymike for reminding Lynton to come by and visit/torture me on Friday, hopefull you had fun in Orlando? Was trying to call in a favor and send some weather your way but mother nature had other things on her to do list for that day.

And here's some reading material

Oh yeah almost forgot J-Live's new release,The Hear After came out today, gotta try and check that out.

Moanday Level 10

Pre store opening music selection:Clubber's Guide Vol. 1 hooked up by Johnny Vicious,City Lites Volume 1.5, a mix sampler thingee? of Nicolay's instrumental release Also listened to Soul Power Funky Kingston 2:Reggae Dance Floor Grooves 1968-74. Nice collection funk influence reggae tunes. I liked tune Reggae Stuff by Matumbi.

Weekend recap, well after two days of running up and down the stairs at the weekend job.(beach traffic reports on two stations almost at the same time) I figured I would do some grilling. Check here for the menu. Weather was kind of shakey but was able to get the beef back ribs & pork spare ribs done.

Walked into the backroom and was greeted to the sight of six us postal bins full of records. Ahhh so much for making space back there. After conferring with another employee, it turns out the records came from a former employee, who is currently umm well lets just say he's at a commercial station in another state.Great more crap to attempt to get rid of. Oh right I don't price those correctly (according to a Fearless Leader who whined about this to a fellow employee) so they are not my concern. My apologies if I don't gouge(sp) people, I just want to get them outta here.

Ok enuff of that, enjoy the day peoples

Weekend Section 2000

After work running errands musical selection:Roots Radical Connection heard on 91.1 WSMU after getting in the house ,tried tuning it in on ghetto blaster/mini stereo thingee. Couldn't then I went to the website and streamed the audio. Huzzahs for high Speed Internet!

Much thanks to Hector for tossing in some of promo cds in the last box.

Well I could go on a rant about the store, but I'm not there on Saturdays so F em! Especially since I didn't get my paycheck til yesterday (usually get em on Wednesday) So instead of a rant lets see what is going to be cooked/grilled tomorrow weather permitting.

Looks like beef back ribs are on the menu. The huge flinstone sized ones. I was thinking of the whole smokn' type of preparation but I'll just do the regular indirect method of grilling em. I will use the wood chunks though, Also some pork spareribs will be tossed on the grill, then after the ribs some chicken thighs finished with some Bullseye BBQ sauce mmmm mmm. For next weekend, the long weekend (yeah right) maybe some jerked chicken (oh damn pops just took two heaping spoons of the jerk paste and added it to some left over rice luckily I have another jar on the shelf),grilled super sweet corn on the cob (on sale this week..!!) with roasted garlic infused butter/margarine,and some type of salad.

Wow Katrina is getting bigger and stronger, yaaay mother nature!

Friday all day edition pt. 1

Pre store opening music selection:Started things off with Overdrive, the newest CD from Aphrodite

Then folowed up with the Groove Junkies House of OM double disc collection and finished it of with Rastafari Lives Best Of Roots Vol. 1 to get mi in a nice mood before the sufferation begins here on Friday.

Ah yes well the back room is much more accessable, considering the amount of boxes that were removed the other day. Wow Makes ya wonder if there is something else going on besides the upcoming trial. hmmm

Here's something that will make fearless leader shudder, check out this article.

And Cannibal u need to tell ya folks to dance to their own music.

But I digress, its Friday and fearless leader called at 10:16 a.m. to say that his 8:45 a.m. doctors appointment has been rescheduled to 10:45 a.m. And as usual the question is when did he realize that he needed to call and let me know that he was going to be late.

Wednesday

Pre store opening music selection:House Of Om:Groove Junkies, advanced release courtesy of H over at that Long Island Distributor. So far so good. Had some of that Holy House up in there, but was a good listen for now.

Well fearless leader arrived a little late today with his daughters in tow. They were there to help him load up a moving van. He was taking out "his stuff" that he has been storing at the store since we opened in this particular location. Wow he actually used the back door...hmmm. He usually uses the front door for all of his loading in and out of stuff. Wow I didn't know that collection of Jazz records that the store bought was "his". Of course why is he moving all of "his stuff: out of the store. He mentioned to someone on the phone that he was making space. Making space for what? As the Superior Court date approaches things get sketchier and sketchier. As I mentioned in an earlier post it hasn't been busy, its been hella slow.

Tuesday Sector 5

Pre store opening music selection:DJ Jazzy Jeff portion of the Scion Sampler. refreshing as usual. Scanned the cd cover in at the store using that all in one HP Scanner/Copier/Printer thingee.

Well it's new release day. Did yall grab that Jim Jones Harlem Diary Of A Summer yet? Available as a dual disc, thats right audio and video content. Or what about these guys. Yeah wow I remember spinning some of their stuff while on college radio. Also out there today is a new release from Pumpkinhead. Also hitting the racks today are full lengths from Kurrupt,I Wayne,LMNO (oops forgot to order that one),That Jay Dee Instrumental release,Aphrodite Cd and a few other things.

We received the huge ass posterboards for Kanye West and 50 Cent releases. The Yayo came a few weeks ago. I guess they are getting their act together in terms of getting the display material out ahead of time. But that may be happening because they are the major artists. It should be interesting to see how many cds of each fearless leader will order. He has already been whinning about why they are releasing the Yayo,Kanye & 50 all on the same day. I wonder if he'll come in early .

I see that the vinyl sale sign has been moved out of the middle window and placed in front of the EMI litebox. I guess he couldn't bare to have that front window blocked up like that.

Randomness
Well they raided a clothing store across town, still getting details.

Got a call from my brother Saturday, said the Asians shot up a car across the street from his house that morning. Said that if he was on his way to his regular weekend job instead of his weekday job overtime, he would've def caught the tail end of the shooting. But hey things still aint as bad as other parts of the country.

As usual today was another going through the motions day. Did a 7 inch order wit Mr. I Hate Mix Cds, Did a pre-order with those guys on LI who could care less about how our boxes are handled by Brown as long as they get an order, and finished up the one sheets for the new white labels that arrived yesterday. Removed the huge ass posterboards from their boxes, left the empty boxes where Brown dropped in off. Gotta see how long it takes b4 fearless leader realizes the boxes are empty. Tomorow should be fun as usual. Might do an order with the guys just outside of Chocolate City, then throw a bone to Obese riddims. Maybe I'll tell yall how successful the vinyl sale is.. hmmm.

Welcome back Realcountry Mike!

Ok thats it gotta get some sleep.

Thanks for the comments...

Monday

Pre store opening music selection, so far it is/was Scion CD Sampler v. 10,Mixed by Peanut Butter Wolf & DJ Jazzy Jef. Peanut Butta Wolf was reppn the Stones Throw label while DJ Jazzy Jeff was handlin things for BBE. Got as far as the intro for the DJ Jazzy Jeff part, then went to listen to stern.

Speaking of BBE this guy finally drops the instrumental version to the Welcome To Detroit release from a few years back. The instrumentals hit stores Tuesday. I already got my copy.

Random Observations

Fearless leader brought in a bunch of empty boxes today.

Saturday was dead according to the numbers. Can't wait to do orders for this week, considering Saturday was dead. Did you read that those of you who ask about orders.

Summers is almost over, still gotta work on the tan before winter.

Gotta bring the niece & nephew over to Sunshine Creamery before the end of summer.

7 inches sales are picking up, huge buzz on Marlon Asher "Ganja Farmer" a couple of selectors played the tune six times during one radio show. Plus it was rewound a few times at a local reggae night..

Finally got the David Banner Banner 12 for "play" back in, (thanks miguel )lets see how long it takes to sell out this time.

It's funny to hear Fearless Leader toss in yeah that New Kanye & Yayo are droppin next week to customers who don't ask about it.

Hmmm a trip outta state would be nice, gotta make sure to avoid NYC, DC, and Atlanta. Oh wait I got friends and family there so I'll just scream their names out as I pass through. I think Operative 15 is somewhere in DC, his last text message said something about Dupont Circle?

Sunday weather was shakey so I did the oven thing. Braised Beef ribs w Spice rub & BBQ sauce, Broccoli steamed over minced garlic, fressh ground pepper, with other spices infused water and some veggy broth rice. Remember folks rice cookers are your friends. Also had time to do some boneless chicken breast tossed in Italian seasonings, and fresh read peppers then baked em off in some organic (less sodium) chicken broth.

Thurz/Freyezday!

Thursday Pre Store opening Music Selection:Worship Recordings WOR.CD.01 yeah needed some dubby house stuff to mellow my mind out.

Nothing more fun than having to call ya boss to see if he's going to come into work Considering he's aready 45minutes late...
Thats how it began yesterday,
Then he had to bounce out for a while to drop something off at the lawyer. Found this out after hearing him try and call the other guys in early. I hit up one employee on the Nextel dir connect (walkie talkie) tip and wanted to make a bet on how long it would take before fearless leader told me he had to bounce. I'm suprised I was able to get the orders out. Of course fearless leader got back at exactly 2:28...I leave at 2:30. And to cap off a fun filled Thursday pops and I were out running errands and just as we stop at the end of an offramp in Seekonk by the Ramada in...Whammmm! we were rear ended and other driver took offf. No injuries but the right rear bumper took some damage. Damn!

Friday Pre-Store Opening Music Selections: Future release from I Wayne. Not bad ,took a while to get through, damn 18 tracks. Before the I wayne, I subjected myself to My Swing, another future release in the VP Riddim Driven Series, no comment. Both the I wayne & My Swing are street dated for this Tuesday.

Hmm, the weekend menu is a toss up. Weather may put a cap on the grillin. Last week sista hooked up some pasta salad using Farfalle pasta (bowtie), with grape tomatoes, celery, fresh dill, and other tings. Later on in the week to make the vegetarians happy in the are Heartless roasted some Shoulder Lamb Chops and Teriyaki Sirloin Tips smothered in onions.

Ok gotta pretend to look busy, may have a weekend update, got to do the family gathering thing tomorrow.

August 17, 2005

Damn!

These folks found out about fearless leaders super secret.....cd sale. Um well no actually they were involved in that nightmare in Virginia. Whoa and if you wanted a souvenir.

And yet the fun continues. I must correct myself. When I made the comments about fearless leader not worrying and relaxing, I was wrong. According to one of the other employees he's definitely stressing. The lawyer mentioned that he may have to do some jail time Oh darn! (sarcasm) I know I know I should feel bad but he got greedy and now he may have to pay the price (of course the lawyer may just be saying this to get more loot out of fearless leader). Sk ppy was only charged with a misdemeanor, but that's for mass. From what I was told no one has been charged in regards to the store that fearless leader was covering during the raid.

Also of interest fearless leader was straightening out his garage to make space for some of the old r&b vinyl that doesn't sell and some of his personal vinyl that he decided to store at the store. From what I was told today by another one of the employees is that he plans on not being at the store next week while he moves all this stuff out. Thank goodness he mentioned this to me,oh wait it is not Friday at 8:00 p.m. and I'm not about to walk out the door.

Like I said the fun continues.

Comments.....

Wednesdayzzz

Pre Store opening music selection: Various Artists Cry Baby, annother cd in the riddem driven series. Different artists same riddim. Unfortunatley I haven't ordered it for the store, doooh. Oh well, also checking out culture dem 2. In a reggae vein for a bit, Must get my uptown top skankin on. Speaking of reggae. Wow Sizzla on Dame Dash's Label boy oh boy.
Hey did you know that Cuban Linlk dropped a new cd. Yeah came out through Mob records,he's no longer with Atlantic. check the wesite here.

Nuff repsect to operative 15 for holding things down for a bit. He's currently out on the road with his big rig doing that delivery thing so I figured I would post a lil somethin somethin. As mentioned in an email to 15 the store is the store. Its interesting to see that fearless leader finally believes that the Kanye & Yayo are both coming out on the 30th,witness the fact that he actually put of the posters anouncing there release, Wow he even put up the 50 cent Massacre special editioncd/dvd posters. For the longest time he has been stressing to customers that they are scheduled for that date. Hmm maybe he finally got a clue and called someone to confirm the dates.

Speaking of dates,September 6th is fearless leaders day in Superior Court,he's not worried. He so relaxed according to one of the other employees he took off for a few ours to take a nap and visit wit one of his on the side females. Damn I wish I had nown that, I would've called up Operative 15 and...um oh never mind. Good tune on right now got to pull up and rewind be right back...

Unity is strength...Unity is Strength...Luciano & Al Pancho....good tune on de Alarm Clock Riddim. Yeah slidding a bit towards the conciousness, um don't worry some slackness soon come. Come wid it Bounty Killer! Wow I suppose Mr. I Hate Mix Cd's " will enjoy the fact that this is a legitimate reggae cd release. Glad to see you made it back from Jamaica in one piece.

New Aphrodite Cd coming out next Tuesday.

Had more to add to this posting but I just got a call from fearless leader who's at the Brockton Hospital with chest pains...damn damn damn!

August 08, 2005

Mundayzz

Pre store opening music selection:Rome Departuresdouble cd put together by DJ MFR on Transport records.

Ah yes another week has begun. I see it was sooo busy saturday that one of the employees had time to clean up one of our backstock areas where we keep the full length hip hop, reggae lps. It was nice thta he took the time to do that,I wish he would pay more attention to his department. Oh well

Friday Sub Section 13 A

So we received a good quantity of this Urban Music Sampler from Universal. And of course fearless leader had to whine about:
How can they claim to support local independent music stores and not make casettes of the new releases. Then he saw the banner which included the upcoming Tony Yayo release and he was weary about putting it up. He asked me to do. I told him to call his Uni rep and as them. So he got on the phone and left a hella ignorant message with somebody about why do you do this and that. I had to tune out,and hope that I aint here when his Karma delivery comes in. That was the same thing we said weeks before the raid, yeah we (the employees) knew the raid was gonna happen
Ah yeah gottal love Ozone Alert days. Uncomfortable outside, cool on the inside, unless you are one of those unfortunate folks without AC. It's looking like a ghost town in here once again which is not a good sign. Well looks like we are in for some bad weather, bad enough that fearless leader let leave 2 hours early. I was almost gonna argue, (considering I live the closest) but then I figured I might as well tae a gift when offered. Of course we didn't get the bad weather but other parts of the state did.
Hurray mother Nature!

Friday Sect. 13

Pre store opening music selection: So far disc two of After Dark London feat tracks from Blaze, Everyday People, Fresh & Low, Oreja, Real People, and a few others . Also listened to Bar Bhangra some bugged out international stuff feat tunes by MidIval Punditz,Panjabi Mc,Swami,Sahara and others. This CD is put out by the same folks who released the Hecho En Cuba series. Bar Bhangra reminds me of this video program that used to be on The International Channel. They played a lot of those Indian vids. You know the ones where Sarika wants to marry Raj but there are issues with the doweries and the palace guards do not like the color of the turban, and raj must battle against sarika's arranged suitor. And every one dances about, the cast is at least 200 or more individuals and everyone is smilling. The female singers have that high pitch falsetto thing going on. Oops, got carried away. There's a tune on here where they actually tossed in a that pump me up sample from Trouble Funk. Wow this would sound nice in my new H2...yeah because I got the loot for something like that, but I digress.

Its Friday, the long day and we're gonna run outta stuff and I really don't care! WooHoo!

More later on...

Thursday Bricks N Mortar

Heartless Jim Actually Listened To My CD ?
Pre store opening music selection: New release from I Self Devine-Self Destruction. Not bad, this guy is the frontman from a group called the Micranots. He's also down with a group called Semi Official, and was involved with a group called the Dynospectrum. I actually may have to give it a listen again because some of the tracks did grab my attention. Overthow was one of them. Not sure if it will garner The Christopher Reed Head Bopping Track Of The Week Award..oh wait he's dead so I'll change that to the Short Bus Head Nod track of the week award, but it could be in the running. The production is aiight, With Vitamin D,Jake One and some dude Bean on the boards, like I said I gotta listen again.

So I came across an interesting post from someone affiliated with the Mavericks by the name of Mark Cuban. He did hit the nail on the head,it's a shame that he may be preaching to the choir.

Gotta love the folks at Young Jeezy's label for coming up with the idea of a car freshner thingee for a promo item. I gotta make sure to leave a few in the vents directly above the cash register where fearless leader will get the full effect of the aroma.

Speaking of fearless leader, his latest spiel to folks on the phone goes something like:
Yeah when they (the customers) would come in to by a mix c, they would also grab a regular cd like the 50 cent or something like that. Now that they can't get mix c s they don't come in and they'll be forced to by bootlegs of the officials and not pay taxes and the artists wont get any royalties and....he actually said this.

He then goes into his, "yeah the labels release the singles to radio weeks in advance, and not making the single available at retail. And since we can't sell mix c s,there's no way for the customer to get that particular single unless they like vinyl.

Gee I hope those folks don't find out about that thing called the internet where they could....shhhhh download the music for free. I mean gee wouldn't want customers to learn about this where they can download this guys' single without the music police kicking in their door.

I like the fact that Fearless Leader claims that reggeaton (Spanish reggae) is only available on mix cds which we don't carry, yet the newest song from Daddy Yankee is actually available on his official cd which came out last year. Curse those evil commercial radio stations for playing "Like You" by Daddy Yankee when it has only been available for a year on his latest release Barrio Fino. How dare they play "Reggaeton Latino feat Don Omar and Nore which can be found on this cd which we have on sale. Don't they realize that according to fearless leader reggaeton is only available on mix cds?

There's no place like work. There's no place like work. There's no place like work.

Ok I gotta stop for today, but I must take time to cheer on Tropical Depression 9 which is rumored to become Hurricane Irene by Sunday. All I gotta say is...come on Irene...bring it!

August 03, 2005

Wednesday ver 1.

To Black, To Strong,

I forgot to mention a new release yesterday. Well it doesn't contain new material but it contains their greatest hits like: B Side Wins Again, Get The F Outta Dodge and My Uzi Weighs A oh wait this is the definitive collection. Oh my mistake, mea culpa. Oopsie, I stand corrected.

But I'll still grab it to show my support.

Well well Nas is back with a dis tune give it a listen right here shoud have the unofficial wax for this tune sometime this week hopefully.

Huzzahs to mother nature for changing the game up once again! It could be intersting to see some of those hurricanes head up this way.

And now some more readn material.

Enjoy

Got to maintain my focus....

Tuesday V 1 A-7

Pre store opening music selection: After Dark London, yep I'm still listening to it, haven't gotten through the whole disc yet. I pop it in til Stern comes on, then listen to Stern for the rest of the morning. After Stern its Hot, not the best choice but that's all the receiver here can get that's palatable. For a future pre store opening music selection I definitely want to check out these guys here or over here. Sounds like they got some stuff going on.

Wow we must have had a major spill or fearless leader is planning on entertaining a female, because the bathroom floor is spotless. You can tell it was cleaned because the floor inside the bathroom is much lighter now than the floor outside the door.

Ok so is everyone gonna cop that Teairra Mari CD? Not yet well how about the new Necro joint Sexploitation...No well maybe the new bounce rhythm cd. There's also the new I Self Divine and Felt releases.

So I was surfing? Viewing this website and I came across this forum thread then I scrolled down and came across this one.

Oh My, speaking of these guys,I haven't done an order with them in about a month or so. Hmm that sounds like a project for today, along with the one sheets for the white labels, 7 inch order from Mr. I hate Mix cd's,checking in the box from obese rhythms outta Brooklyn, checking in the bof from the guys from Long Island and seeing if it survived the trip.

That's all for now, enjoy the day folks.

Mundayz

Pre-Store opening music selection: Afterdark London nice collection of music from across the pond from the same people that did Latin Vibes.

Wow new week oh wait new month. Menu recap, Ribs came out nice, rub recipe was kind of spicy, will have to tweak it next time around. Chicken breast came out well, didn't do the sweet & spicey honey mustard glaze thing. Didn't want to blow the heads off of the folks. Turkey sausage was nice, forgot to pick up the red peppers, will have to do that later on this week. Added grilled potatoe halves to the menu at the last minute, did those after the boneless chicken breast. Tossed some more charcoal on the fire along with some wood chunks, did some more ribs, then roasted some corn on the cob. Yeah so I was grillin & bbq'n all afternoon yesterday. Didn't get to the spinach until this afternoon though. Oh well

Yeah go ahead and drink that warm stuff but you may want to read this first.

Enjoy...
