Saturdayz

Ah yes another weekend is here. Have to remember to not watch Sci-Fi Friday as soon as I come home from the store and just crawl into bed so I can be little more alert at the weekend spot. Almost messed up the sponsored beach traffic report. And you can't have that at one of the biggest stations in the state.

Did the three plus hours of errands today. Wow and I still gotta grab some stuff tomorrow.

The menu for the upcoming week is another vegetarian delight. We're gonna start off with some bbq beef back ribs maybe over some mesquite wood chunks, then some Hot Italian Turkey Sausage, and some boneless chicken breasts. Oh wait thats all meat, sorry about that. Yeah gonna use a basic rub for the ribs and definately go for the slow cooked method so I can get that smoke ring or something like that. Besides the Turkey Sausage (maybe roast some red peppers) and Boneless Chicken Breasts (might use a sweet/hot honey mustard glaze) looks like for the vegetable side of things I'll cook up some Italian Style Spinach, some cabbage (didn't get to it last week),and maybe some grill roasted corn on the cob (nice sale price starting Sunday). Here's a recipe for the grilled corn, not sure if I'm going to use that particular one.

As much as I want to hit you off with some new fearless leader quotes (they never end) you are going to have to wait. Picked up some fresh blueberries and I'm going to see what can be done with them. Oh wow if I freeze them, maybe I can use a slingshot to hit the neighbors. Oh wait thats right, must not play with the food. Hmm looks like fresh blueberry smoothies, and other weird drinks instead. Dinner tonight...teriyaki shaved steak & onion sandwiches.....

Enjoy ya weekend.

Might have a new chapter to the fiction piece some time next week, and maybe a few previews of some orther works. I told maybe one or two folks about it. Working title: Make Peace With Your Maker...

Thuh Thuh Thursday

Pre Store opening music selection: Started getting back into the Cielo cd that I mentioned in yesterdays post, but stopped and put the radio in the back on so I could listen to Howard. I need the mindlessness to get the day going, especially heading into the all day fun fest tomorrow.

It seems as folks are grabbing the new Sizzla Soul Deep cd, maybe I'll give it a listen. Not as much as they grabbed the Capleton Reign Of Fire release but it's still early.

Still haven't gotten the Record Sale signs in yet. Here's the info on the sale. Buy one record get the second one for one cent. This includes all 45's,12"s and Lps released before 2005 and after 1994 are eligible, the higher price prevails. If prices are not the same, the cheaper record is the one for one cent.

It's amazing that fearless leader finally got around to the whole sale thing, we'll see how long this last. Especially with some of the import lps.

Gotta love the folks at Young Jeezys parent label who handle display materials, we just got the posters/snipes that say in stores July26th yesterday. Somebody prob tripped over them in their office and had the brilliant idea to send them out now after street date instead of before.

Here's another take on the radio payola thing. I remember this guy when he used to promote records to me at college radio.

Ok enough for now, must start working on orders for the weekend. Hmm do we really need the new Javier 12 inch

Mid Week Moans

Pre-Store Opening Music:Reboot,Notes For The Next Generation this can be described as music for a cause. Om Records and NextAid put together this compilation. Sounded nice in the background as I was updating my inventory file and new this week file. Then I cracked open a box and checked in some reggae 7 inches, along with some cds and lps yaaay. Also started checking out Cielo on Studio Distribution. Hopefully tomorrow I'll check out a few of the new releases for this week. I attempted to get through some of this guys' new release but I guess I wasn't in the right mindset, or I wasn't part of the target demographic so I had to put it in the later pile.

So my brother has been forwarding me some articles about radio payola, peep this one from Slate.com and then maybe one from The post hmm maybe that explains why its painful to listen to commercial radio for extended periods of time.

No Where To Run No Where To Hide.
And I remember the female disc jockeys voice and all you could see of her was those lips hmmm and now they are doing this, I wonder if the lizzies or lezzies will make an appearance. Caaaan You Dig It?

Paranoid who's paranoid
Fearless Leader quotes:

Talking to a person who wants to send him cds on consignment
"we have to be careful with what we take in because we've had trouble with RIAA"

Talking to a customer about why he has to say what he says all the time
"And you know they send in spies..."

His reasoning for why they are doing all of the raids
"Supposedly they're working for the record companies, but actually I think they've gone off on their own tangent"

Fearless leader wearing his upcoming charge(s) like a badge of honor
"I'm the first one ever charged with this crime in the state of Rhode Island

Next court date September 6th

Lets see,oh yeah fearless leader has been looking at mx cdz...websites...Found an email he sent to a web design company..he prints out everything and leaves them lying around. I really don't want to think about what this email means..more on this in the future.

Next Day

Pre store opening music:Various Artists-Hecho En Cuba Good collection of up and coming Cuban Artists, um and no there is no Cuban Hip Hop on this cd. This is more traditional sounding of what you may hear down there. The tile translates to "Made In Cuba"

Been hitting a wall for bit in terms of posting stuff.

July 26, 2005

The Future Of DJ'ing

This was sent to me by a friend who pointed out that this particular mixer doesn't have any pitch controls.....

July 25, 2005

Thurzdayzzz,Friesday,etc etc etc

Pre Store opening selection:Wor.CD.01 nice dubby style house (maybe) cd compiled by Rob Paine featuring a gang of releases from the Worship Label, mobile dj:nature (dj milo) unscene:live at the cat club 1979,this one had some stuff on it(don't they all) tracks like Funk Reaction,Love Vibration(special mix)Everybody Party,Get Down (re-edit),Boom Bap Project-Nice Northwest hip hop, some of the tracks had an old school flow to em,old school as in Cold Crush brothers..Wale Oyejide-One Day..Everything Changed, definitely some different ish,Greenhouse Effect-Columbus or Bust, Ohio?Backpack stuff feat Manifest & Blueprint. Damn these guys are angry. DJ Vajra-Saul Good. One of those unmentionable M.. CD's,nice blend of the old and obscure hip hop,old breaks, and some more tossed in. Poppa Large remix was nice.

So fearless leader walks in with a huge flashlight, and says, "well at least we wont be in the dark next time we lose power." Of course the flashlight is a rechargeable one, yet he hasn't gotten around to plugging it in to charge up.

Ah yes as I mentioned the other day, one of our browser bins full of LP vinyl broke. (they really weren't designed to hold vinyl, but that's another story) I figured that fearless leader would be fixing it, since he pulled, out the drill and began drilling screws into the piece that broke off. I was wrong, he didn't fix it till Thursday Afternoon,of course that didn't help the guy in the wheelchair who couldn't get to the register because of the shelving unit propped up against the counter on one side of the aisle, and the records from the broken browser bin on the other side. Isn't there a law or something on the books in regards to accessibility...hmmm?

Oh well, one of the good things to come out of the whole browser bin collapse is that we will be having a sale. Buy one piece of vinyl at regular price and get the next one for a penny. Wow what a concept. Of course I'm not sure when the sale is supposed to start. He mentioned something about having his daughters doing the sign for the sale over the weekend. And as usual that didn't happen.

After getting verbally beaten up by Mr. I Hate Mix Cds about not having any idea for a food menu on Friday (because he was doing Jerked Chicken and Roast whole fish to celebrate his father coming to town or something like that ), I did some thinking came up with this weeks Menu. (Sun,Mon) Barbecued Beef Short Ribs,Steamed Green Beans and Grilled potato halves,{Tue Wed} Beef stir fry w green onions,Cous Cous (ran outta rice),and stir fried vegetables,(Thu) Grilled Chicken Leg quarters,Smothered Cabbage, and something else maybe corn. Yeah it looked pretty daunting, but it worked out well, just involved some prep work. Seared the short ribs on the grill then finished them in the oven, there is a way to do the short ribs on the grill, but in involved some extra cutting and I wasn't willing to deal with that, maybe next time. While the ribs were searing,I put the together the rub for the chicken leg quarters using a recipe from last years edition of this book, the rub had cumin, curry powder, allspice, chili powder, cinnamon, and black pepper if I remember correctly,to give the green beans some flavor, I added some minced garlic, pepper, fresh ground nutmeg, and a dry herb mix to the steaming liquid. Prepped the potatoes (russets) by scrubbing them, then slicing them in half, and marinating the halves in an Italian dressing mixture with some minced garlic. For the beef stir fry I used some stew beef(the recipe called for some flank or something else's like that but I used what we had in the freezer),cut the chunks into smaller pieces and marinated them in teriyaki sauce for a few hours.

Random thought
We're Gonna Stack Ya Mac...Reality show where Mac Users get a major upgrade to their computers, hosted by Michelle Le & Tim Dog...Now that would be interesting.

Ok my apologies to the millions..And millions(The Rock, reference) of Heartlesszone fans on the long time in between updates.

Quickness

Ok train of thought derailed for a bit,new post soon come.

July 20, 2005

Whuh Whuh Wednesday

Oh yeah, middle of the week once again. No pre-store opening music today. Just listening to Stern to numb the senses. We had a tease of a thunder storm yesterday evening, hopefully the next one will be a bit stronger. You know I'm always cheering on mother nature to do her worst It was great watching the wind blow through the trees, listening to the thunder and watching the skies for bolts and flashes of lightning.

Things were hella slow at the store today until one of the browser bins with the Hip Hop Lp Vinyl broke, yaaaay albums all over the floor in front of the register.

Short and dulll....yaaaaawn.

Tuesday Z

Pre-store opening music: Ultra Weekend,Trojan Rude Boy Box Set,disc one nice collection of some gun tune reggae or something like that, maybe rocksteady style, I'll have hunt down, I mean consult someone about the proper description of that particular genre, also listening to Rapper Big Pooh Sleepers. Took me a while to get to that sleeper, definitely feeling the overall release. Checked out The Thyrday another crew from North Kac-a-lack,The Perfection Xperiment is the title of the CD and it had some quality stuff in there, was feeling a cut called "The Rutherford Affair"

Have you ever had a song just pop into ya head and you had to hear it? Well this tune is on the Nuyorican Soul cd I Am The Black Gold Of The Sun is the name of the tune. I know I have the cd at home, somewhere in one of the stacks of doom. But since I wanted to hear it now not later so I went here and streamed it from their jukebox. Gotta love the internet, yeah I know if I searched hardcore I probably could've downloaded it. The original tune was done by a group called Rotary Connection.

Much thanks to a good friend by the name of cannibal for mentioning me and also asking me about of this rapper

I didn't get a chance to mention it yesterday but today I have a bit of time. It was interesting to come in to store yesterday and see that the big red monster BMG listening station gone and replaced with a new installation of what I like to call performance art. A beat up tower pc and old ass monitor. it will join the other installations located around the store, like the shelving unit on its side in front of the counter,or the useless all in one hp printer/scanner/fax/copy obstacle sitting on the floor in front of the counter. At least he got rid of the old desk jet printers that were on the floor in front of the gospel counter. Here's a brilliant idea if you are going to store inkjet printers on their sides for a long period of time-remove the ink cartridges...sheesh. Well that doesn't matter because the floor has never been washed since the store has opened. The BMG listening station now joins the the not so new Liteboxes in the store supply annex TMRR otherwise known as the men's restroom.

Did the Tuesday poster ritual thing. I guess it was good that I hung up the Paul Wall poster because the WEA regional came through. Told me that the Paul Wall project has been pushed back to September. Oh well at least the poster will get folks asking about it. Hmm maybe I should hang up a few more, because I know Fearless Leader enjoys staying up to date on everything urban.....Yeah right.

Everytime I open up my web browser this page loads up. At the top of the page is comic strip by AARON MCGRUDER. It is being made into a cartoon that will be shown during Cartoon Networks Adult Swim programming block Click on this here Boondocks link for a sneak peak at some stuff.

"Ok Jim if you have any problem with the self install kit feel free to call this number here on the card"....Insert cd in cd rom player and follow instructions. Hmmmmm, um hey um this is a Macintosh computer. These are all pc commands..wtf
Wow I guess working at the store didn't complete destroy my desire for tech and upgrades because now I have a hi speed internet connection. All I need now is some wireless stuff and then I'll be able to grill & blog....hmmm maybe not.

comments? Questions?

Mundaay

Man, I know I should be focusing on getting the orders together, but after seeing the numbers for Saturday, I figure I can hold off on that for a bit. That updated version of Everybody Loves The Sunshine feat Erykah Badu can be found on this cd and it can also be found on this cd. Was just listening to a bit of the Midnight Soul collection, was also vibing to Giant Step Records Soul Sessions release

Gotta clarify a few things mentioned in various posts.

"Yeah the excitement level is high as I await the condition of the box from our favorite dist. from Long Island. Will brown hit the goal with this one? We shall see."
Well Brown definately did hit the goal with that particular box,as it suffered the dreaded compression damage (sides split from not enough reinforcement to handle heavy object be placed on top). Yeah we ask Un oops almost mentioned their name, to use extra tape and cardboard but I guess since our box aint going to Japan...oops damn!

"Nah I aint touching that with a 40 meter maypole and Bobs your uncle."
That was a reference to the bombings across the pond and how it was to early to post a joke about that.

"Here's the tag line from their upcoming full length: We Are At War....Know Your Enemy"
I was not talking about Kris Kross, I was talking about Rebirth Of A Nation, the upcoming Public Enemy full length featuring Paris scheduled to come out August 23rd. Yeah it features Flav & Professor Griff, plus special guests Kam,Paris,Sister SoulJah (we areat war!) Dead Prez,MC Ren,Immortal Technique.

"good to see that you have a spot for your thoughts, although i miss the butcher paper..."
When I use to work at a supermarket deli/seafood counter I used to write a lot of random comments on butcher paper during down time.

"Speaking of priorities, fearless leader was spending a good amount of time at this website, I guess he wanted some background material for his case."
Well I learned from a felllow employee Friday that he was going to order the DVD so he could give it to his lawyer.

If you are in the Providence area tonight, please stop by the Xxodus Café @ The Providence Black Repertory Company and check out a very good friend by the name of Ove, he'll be opening up for Ursula Rucker as part of the Providence Sound Session 05 Festival

Ok, now back to work, don't forget to leave a comment, except for Ifeelworthy & realcountrymike yall got some issues...just kidding..

Weeeekend Plus

Fridays pre-store opening music:Om Lounge 9 ok collection of downtempo grooves, especially feeling the chill out mix of Steppin Out by Kaskade and speaking of Kaskade thats the latest House Of Om CD release. That went into the cd player along with Dream Merchant Vol. 1 by 9th wonder, that was the bonus cd that came along with the National Mayhem limited edition thingee featuring A CD from L.E.G.A.C.Y and The Away Team.

Sunshine, everybody loves the sunshine....Man I was hearing an updated version of that tune, this time Roy Ayers flipped it with Erykah Badu. Nice! Hey people, was soo busy Friday that I couldn't even update this thing. Um yeah right, actually the tumbleweeds had to battle for attention. The only excitement was wen we lost power for 45 minutes or so. I thought fearless leader had finally pissed off the wrong person and they cut the power off to take revenge but it was a citywide outage.

Yall know how I was cheering on Dennis, then Emily Well mother nature decided to thank me by flooding out my Aunt and Uncle in Austelle Ga. They only had enough time to grab a change of clothes before the water rushed in and wiped out everything on the first floor of their condo. Wow, yaaay mother nature!

Did the Saturday morning job ritual of loading production into the computer and running the beach traffic report on two stations (at least they gave me a note this time informing me of the additional station, I like running up and down the stairs, I like runnning up and down the stairs). After all that joyous entertainment, I went and did the errand thing with pops,my niece and nephew. Nothing more fun than mediating a fight over who gets to push a shopping cart.

Here are some quotes from me during that morning/early afternoon adventure:

"Okay you both can push just don't run anybody over!"

"Do you want me to put this back?"

"No I cannot buy Harry Potter, you need to ask your mother, anyway it may be cheaper elsewhere."

"Slower slower, turn right down this aisle"

"I don't know why Bj's Wholesale club is more crowded than Sams, maybe because its easier to get to"

Ok nuff of that got to get into work mode.....Yaaay Monday.......Yaaay Monday!

Fiction II

From the first entry:

The lights changed from green to red and the stage took on a yellow glow as a tall dark skinned rasta approached the turntables, bopping to the beat. Thooosaaka & Shogun were off to the side until Dead placed his first record on the turntable, and in a flash of green light and smoke, Shogun & Thooosaaka disappeared to be replaced by three doom dancers with the jamaican symbol on the back of their robes....

And now we proceed:

I've got to ring Lisa about this, I know she'll really be pissed having missed out on Dooms Appearance, plus the introduction of a new disciple. Jase flipped open his mobile only to be confronted with a dead screen. Thats weird, I charged up before I left the hotel. And I do remember snapping a few shots of those cosplayers outside in the park earlier. Damn they must be using a jammer or something. Wow Dead Dread is dropping his first tune.

And indeed he was, the mass of Doom Dancers in front of the stage began to sway to the rhythm of a ragga dubplate of Damian Marley's "Welcome To Jamrock" but instead of Welcome To Jamrock, the chorus has become Welcome to Dreadrock.

Wicked he has his own dubplates, Jase whispered as he began to descend the stairs towards the front of the arena, but before he could get to the bottom of the stairs he was stopped by a large man with the Doom insignia branded into his right arm. His body was that of a young body builder, but his eyes were cold, almost lifeless, and they spoke volumes of the many battles he has witnessed,

"You may go no further young one, not until the dancers have finished their" -

"Opening Spectacle,"

These last two words were not spoken by the guard but by a figure to right with a blue buzz cut,old style timbaland hiking boots, leather vest and a kilt with red suspenders. Jase was struck by the fact that he recognized the voice of his associate from the good days by the name of Devon.

"Over ere Jase grab a seat and watch," said Devon.

Upon closer inspection Jase noticed the scarring on Devons face and realized that Devon did not escape the power riots in the city as he did a few years back.

"Well mate I'm glad to see you made it back in before they closed the borders."

"Yeah, as if closing the borders will be the answer to their problems," Jase mumbled as he took a seat next to Devon.

More to come

Here's a link to the theme song used by Thooosaaka as he made his entrance.Raisin Kane-Darqwan

In case you missed the first entry, it can found here under the heading Fiction, posted on June 21st.

Thurzzzzday

Pre-store opening music selection:Bonus CD from the Stones Throw 101 DVD featuring the skills of Peanut Butter Wolf, Bargrooves cosmopolitan on Ultra Records, and It's gonna be a toss up between Slim Thug,The Away Team,L.E.G.A.C.Y. or Subharmonic in Dub.

Well on today's oh so fun to do list, more 7 inch dividers for the order scheduled to arrive today, one sheets for the incoming vinyl white label order. Can you tell how excited I am, wait, check it out, my happy face. Yeah the excitement level is high as I await the condition of the box from our favorite dist. from Long Island. Will brown hit the goal with this one? We shall see.

I wish I had a digital camera so I could show yall the condition of the boxes some times. Plus the camera would come in handy to update yall on the color scheme of my Mohawk. I know I gotta get one now considering its been a while since I've upgraded the tech aspect of my belongings.

So I got the latest upcoming release catalog from one of our distributors, and I was pleased with the cover. It had a group of individuals that I hadn't heard from in a bit. Here's the tag line from their upcoming full length: We Are At War....Know Your Enemy. Damn I can't wait to here what they have to say, considering the line up. Wanna know the name of the group? Hmmm I think I have a plaque from them somewhere in my house.

Well since the weather is kind of iffy today looks like the pasta w sauce option will come into play. Maybe I'll saute some fresh garlic w mushrooms, peppers, toss in some fresh basil, then dump it all into some sauce. Wow that actually does sound kind of yummy. I was just gonna get some sauce and go with that, but now I'm inspired. I'll let yall know how it works out tomorrow.

Keeping it short. More later hopefully, depends upon what happens this afternoon after I pick up some equipment.

Ok lets get those cheerleaders ready. Ok lets here that cheer

Prepare for trouble!
Make it double!
To protect the world from devastation!
To unite all peoples within our nation !

Oh ok that was the wrong cheer even though that cheer sounds familiar, yall was supposed to be cheering for this lady by the name of Emily Well maybe yall will get it right next time. Man ya gotta love mother nature it's still early in the season and she's just throwin some blows!

realcountrymike said...
So now that your fearless leader is out of the mix tape game, what is he doing to keep the lights on?

That is a very good question-here are a few answers:

We now have a Gospel CD Sale Section right in front of the gospel counter.

All of the new release cds now occupy the slots where the mix cds were stored.

He Took a day off so he could clean out his garage.

He brought in a bigger shelf from home to replace a shallower one.

Spend an ridiculous amount of time on the main line (which we don't have call waiting on) whining about how it's not fair.

Telling certain female customers who come in looking for mix cds to try getting them on web by doing a google search. Then telling them good luck because they're going to get the websites next.

Telling every person who asks for mix cds the story of the raid, including the amount of officers, the time it went down, his court appearances and anything else he can think of.

As you can see he is doing a lot to keep the lights on.

Wendesdayzzz

Pre-Store ,opening music selection:House Of OM by Kaskade, compilation of tunes selected by Kaskade on Om records, nice vibe to it. Am I Black Enough For You? Jamaican Songs Of Freedom 1970-1979,this is a nice collection on the Trojan Records label. So good I may have do a a pull up rewind selector on a dis one. The title makes me think of spoken word piece done by a sister some time ago. Yeah she stepped to the mic with attitude and um oh wait I digress. Hmm what else did I listen to these past few days, um Lina on Hidden Beach Records, Nicolay The dutch Masters Vol. 1 Hmm I know I have to get to some of the new releases also Jaguar Wright may definately be worth a listen, and maybe I'll laser drop the New Slim Thug...hmmm

Wow its Wednesday, another day of joy. Let us begin the celebration ritual, cue the drummers ! Wait my style is better than yours, then we must battle! Oops jumped on a tangent once again.

More ramblings later on.

2'sday

Pre store opening music selections:V/A Bargrooves Manhattan- some housey stuff,Latin Vibes:Lounge Selection-nice collection of downtempo latin, jazzy deep house stuff on a 2 cd collection put out by Kinkysweet recordings, interesting sticker on the shrinkwrap: Ipod friendly, this audio cd ,is compatible with all media payers. Started to listen to Fabric Live 22 featuring the Scratch Perverts but I got tired of it quick. Popped in Caroline Distribution's World Music Sampler, real nice so far especially Juca Chaves-Take Me Back To Piaui(Dubben Remix). Gonna have to cop that Brazilian Beats 6 CD thats where that originally appeared. Might have to bring in the Hecho En Cuba Cd's and get the Latin thing going tomorrow.

Oh wait it time for a rant. Had another fun morning, changed some of the posters, hung up the new Slim Thug Posterboard and some Dipset posters and finally got around to hanging the R. Kelly Banners, yaaay!

Well Fearless Leader had another day in court. I think he said it was District Court Arraignment. The other side still hasn't looked into the case yet...New Superior court date September 6th.

Weekend Randomness

Here are some random comments, observations from the weekend...

Nah I aint touching that with a 40 meter maypole and Bobs your uncle.

From Newsday...
Mobile, Ala. Tiki Rodgers, manager of Best Inns of America on Interstate 65
"It's not looking very good," said Rodgers, who planned to leave for higher ground in Georgia within the hour. "All the Wal-Marts are even closed, so I know something's wrong."

Thats a good sign when the Wal Marts close, its time to go

It was fun yesterday, watching Hurricane Dennis coverage on CNN, epecially when Anderson Cooper and the other guy almost got their asses kicked by a Ramada Inn sign...Yaay Mother Nature.

Ok folks time to cheer on the next storm

Hella short and random....tomorrow fearless leader has a court date....

July 09, 2005

Friiiidaaayyy! Yeeeah

Was listening to the DJ Premier Breaks CD from the Kings Of Hip Hop set, and I was like damn Primo pulled out some joints,no they weren't those extremely obscure tunes that you might find on a DJ Muro release (Japanese crate digger, known for his rare groove tapes now available on cds) I think Muro might have actually come through the store once. Here's some of the tracks that Primo was beating up (if you've heard a DJ premier set you'll know what I'm talking about) Ohio Players-Skin Tight(single version) ,Heatwave-Aint No Halfsteppin,Grover Washington Jr.-Winter Majic (single version) Vicki Anderson-The Message From The Soul Sisters Part 1&2, then it slows down a bit towards the end.

Friday Morning
Man, so much for a well planned out day at work yesterday. One phone call killled that. Fearless Leader called at about 9:15 a.m. to say he wasn't going to be in because he has to do some work around the house. Wow gotta love those priorities. At first I thought this was him being spontaneous, but then after speaking to our sales person at our major cd supplier, I found out he did the old wait til the last possible minute before telling me thingee again. Wow thank you Fearless Leader.

Generic Filler because I was bogged down with checking in orders, and dealing with customers while fearless leader fooled around with a huge CD shelf thingee that he brought in from his cleaned up garage (that he says it doesn't even look like they did anything after six hours) and just left in front of the counter by the register....man get those blunt objects away from my hands.

Sister mentioned that Earth Wind And Fire was on tour with Chicago. Which she thought it was stange until I metioned the Chicago sound and both groups have that strong horn section so they should compliment each other well.

So I was asking some folks how come they haven't left comments and here's what one had to say.

That Guy Willie Jones from Fat Beats

"Haven't had a lot of time to do anything other than peddle records"

Gee thanks willie, I am so glad you had time to check out another blog because your name was mentioned. So I figured I would massacre your real name and not even refer to you by your nickname, yeeeaah! (did that make sense?)

Wow I was so glad when 8 p.m. came, I seriously need to rethink my Friday schedule.

Yeah its a short one, kind of tired.

July 07, 2005

Thirstday O!

Double Trouble double trouble, hmm that just popped into my head, I think it was from a freestyle session in Wildstyle or something like that. Hey yall how are you doing. Please join me in cheering on soon to be a category 3 Hurricane Dennis yeah I know its wrong to cheer on the forces of nature, but hey its a welcome distraction. Yeah I have peeps in the south, as a a matter of fact Alabama got some storm damage, hmmm gotta have someone call down there and check on the relatives.

Today's pre-store opening music selections:Future World Funk-The Up Disc (2 cd set), Soca Master Mix Vol. 2 (ridicously uptempo soca music with a lot of horns blasts, sound effects and on point mixing) I almost had to stop and thro mi hands in de air for a bit! I remember when I first played this cd over and over, Fearless Leader wasn't pleased. He can't take that style of cd with the horns and sound effects so u know I had to seek those out and make sure that was all that I would play. I wanted to make it Soca Thursday this morning but I couldn't find my Soca Gold mix cds (officially released by the label) I think the 2004 mix cd is better, but the 2005 has that hari krishner soca tune....but I digress, also in the pre-store opening music selection: The Kings Of Hip Hop (double cd released by BBE a few months back) and House You by DJ Cer (has a bunch of classics supposedly).

And now let me put on the extra bushy eyebrows, white hair wig and adjust my voice to whine mode (aka Andy R). I'm looking at the counter and it its covered with a few things, here's a stack of paperwork, and one sheets, for upcoming releases. Have you ever wondered...ok enough of that.

We actually got new a shipment of dividers (yaaay, hey mister I wanna go see air bud-crank yankers), Fearless Leader felt that since the trial date was not set yet he might as well get back to business as usual. Wow no more handmade cardboard dividers for the 7 inches. (damn that's a good tune playing...hold on a sec)

Ok where was I, oh yeah he actually decided to pay attention to the needs of the rest of the store go figure. So that's a project for today replacing the cardboard dividers with the new plastic ones, joy of joys. Lets not forget the incoming shipment of new reggae 7 inches, more 12 in vinyl and independent cds from that spot in Quincy. And since its Thursday I gotta look through the new release sheet for 7/12/05 from our major cd supplier. Fearless Leader always asks me what we should do on this one and that one, and sometimes I'll give him a weird number just to see his reaction. I always wonder if he really listens to what the customers are asking for sometimes.

Here's a litte preview of part II of the fiction thingee:

but before he could get to the bottom of the stairs he was stopped by a large man with the Doom insignia branded into his right arm. His body was that of a young body builder, but his eyes were cold, almost lifeless, and they spoke volumes of the many battles he has witnessed, "You may go no further young one...

Ok thats enough for now, comments are welcome

Morning pre-store opening music selection:House Of Yoshi by Dan Coleman,Bargrooves-Cosmopolitan,Craze-Miami Heat, and maybe the rest of Webbie-Savage Life, def feelin that cut Full of Dat Sh feat Lil Boosie,Listened to the Missy yesterday not bad. Usually dont get to that many cds in one morning but since Howard is on vacay I figured some music would help numb my mind before we open.
Ah yeah, it was starting to rain as I made my way in, luckily I missed the downpour. I guess there ain't gonna be any complaints about drought down there for a while. Hey lookee over there Mickey Mouse is doing the back stroke.
Oops that's right I was supposed to be doing a rant about work. Hmmm its Wednesday which means I must get the orders put together so we'll be stocked for the weekend, yaaay! Gotta check the pre-release sheets for the upcoming official vinyl releases, then formulate how many we'll need and then decide who I will order it from. For our major label vinyl releases we use two different distributors, one spot on Long Island and a place in Baltimore. The Baltimore dist is a two day ship,so if I want to get the new stuff for the weekend then I must get the order in before 5 pm today, plus they use heavy boxes and extra tape. If I use the Long Island dist they are a one day ship but their boxes can't handle the soccer skills of brown. My salesperson at the Long Island Dist has been sweatin me to buy new release cds from him. I told him to speak to fearless leader and considering fearless leaders loyalty to one company and his grudge holding skills it may not happen. Decisions decisions. On the whole thing of brown soccer skills,it is weird that our boxes get the most abuse, I think fearless leader has rubbed them the wrong way. Like that's anything new. He seems to think its because they run the belts to fast, yet our next door neighbors on both sides boxes look fine when they come off the truck..hmmm. Since its a short week, I gotta get the reggae 7 inch orders in also,we use two sometimes 3 distributors for that stuff. Woohoo, more music to listen to. Luckily some of tunes are available on-line to preview. Some, not all so I still get to harass my friend at one spot so he can play them for me over the phone. I am glad that he does that,it does make the ordering process much easier. There is more to all this ordering stuff, a few of the distributors have websites with real time inventory. There are some days when I don't even speak with a salesperson (yaaay!), I just click click click select checkout and I'm done. Or I email the order to em. Aint technology just grand.
Speaking of technology for those of yall with iPods be careful out there.

And now some more quotes:
Fearless Leader speaking to someone on the phone about the raid

"It's not fair, its just one of those things where we're caught in the middle"

"Yeah I Know, they're on every street corner,we'll have to get a van and do the A-Team thing,go around take pictures of them"

Customer after hearing about the raid:
"Yeah, they did it in Albany to"

"That's funny that they did it here"

Fearless Leader
"Not funny to me"

Customer regarding the whole thing
"You go to the store and bother them but you don't go to the bootleggers on the street"

Quick correction in regards to yesterday pre-store opening music selection: Future World Funk compilation is scheduled for July 12th street date d'oh! I was listening to the promo...

For those of yall who grill with charcoal, try using some of the natural kind every once and a while, I used some stuff called Cowboy Hardwood Charcoal to do up some beef back ribs yesterday and it worked nicely. Gave out a higher heat and lit up quickly. Btw I did a quick marinade for the ribs using Mr. Yoshidas Gormet Sauce and some minced garlic, once I tossed em on the grill I seasoned them with some salt free steak seasoning. Damn I need to get Pete Rock to do a remix of that tune they use in the commercial. Also on the menu was seasoned(not gonna tell ya what the seasoning was) steamed rice, and mixed vegetables. If you can't find Cowboy Hardwood Charcoal (try Lowes),you may want to look for Natures hardwood charcoal or Natures finest? I think I saw some at Whole Foods Marketplace.

Ok thats all for now got to listen to some new riddims on-line! Yaaaay me!

Tuesdaay

Morning pre-store opening music selection: various artist compilation,"Future World Funk-On The Run" nice mix (oops did I say mix uh-oh) I meant to say selection of tunes, seek it out if you are into world music.

It is always refreshing to head back to work after a long weekend. Yup, didn't want to get too comfortable at home, wouldn't want to over indulge in rest and relaxation. Hey looks like we sold some vinyl, witness the empty bins. Oh wait you can't because there isn't a picture for yall to look at oh well, just use your imagination ok. Well believe me we did sell some vinyl, and it looks like we had a good day Saturday in terms of overall sales. It has been kind of empty for a while. Could be a combination of things, some of our vinyl customers have switched over to cds and a new program called serato, scared of fearless leader throat clearing noise (not a pleasant sound), the approaching apocalypse ,the heat, the rain, people perception that the store was closed "yo I saw it on the news tat yall was closed" and yet you are standing inside of the store and talking to us..

Today is new release day, wonder how many folks will be in for the new R Kelly? Missy Missy Elliott,or Webbie? Wanna place bets as to which one will be the top seller? Hmm once they see the prices....

Well it was a matter of time, I decided to go back to a normal haircut The mid fro wasn't cuttin it. So now its the low maintenance style of hairdo, sans the gold chains.

That's all so far, I know some folks were hoping for more of fearless leaders insightful comments, maybe next time around.

Don't forget to leave a comment, Especially you "mister I hate mix cds and I hope the all dissappear,"...

Monday,Monday

Wow I can't believe it, we're closed today. No oh so fun interaction with fearless leader (yeah right),no customers asking the same question over an over: Acela train A starts in Boston, and is traveling at 75 miles per hour while Shinkansen series 300 leaves Kyoto Station at...oh wait its a holiday.

Hmmm a holiday, slept through the fireworks last night, woke up earlier than normal, and couldn't get back to sleep. Then I decided to tackle some yard work after waitng a few hours, didn't want to wake the neighborhood up. Thank whatever that my brother had some of the yard work the other day, because I know it would have been a full day project instead of a half a day. Lets see, I cut down the wall of green between the houses, removed a helluva lot of vines & weeds growing on the fence and attempting to attach to tree limbs, got out the tree branch pruner and removed some branches, made use of the bow saw,gas powered hedge trimmers, folding hand saw and 10 to 12 of the lawn refuse bags. And there's still more to do, but I would need a chainsaw for that. Oh wait my brother has two...hmmm
Was supposed to grill some ribs but after all that fun, I couldn't bring myself to sit down out there, I would've fallen asleep and burned em for sure. Looks like the ribs will have to wait til tomorrow, yaay!

Weekend Wanderings

Well its been a few days, had bloggers block...hmm yeah that's the ticket. Yesterday did the food shopping, errand thing after a fun filled morning at the weekend job. Production and beach traffic reports on three stations oh my! Well actually it was two stations, they started a new person on the third station. Um how new...He didn't know the station request line...yikes.
Yesterdays trip destinations, a gas station,East Bay (I think...have to learn to eat something in the morning)Ice Company, two Targets,A Sams,Lowes,Shaws(wow dad, I didn't know that is the way to tell if an ear of corn is good),and Stop&Shop. Why all of the errands, well my nephew/godson was having his cookout/birthday celebration, so we had to pick up some ice, plus replenish the supply of food & charcoal that came from our house and was sent over to the cookout. (the cookout was held at a friend of the familys house, they have a bigger yard) Picked up some Corn On the Cob(must've been a bad crop, because the ears were kind of small, which meant a lot of picking) I thought I was going to use it at the house, u know grill it, but pops thought it was for the birthday/cookout thingee so off that went. Its on sale this week so I can get more. I never did make it to the cookout. Too tired,I think the hours spent in traffic Thursday finally caught up with me. You know traffic is bad when it takes 15-20+minutes just to get to my street from Skippys. (usually 5 minutes or less).
Well its the middle of the long weekend. Here's a question for yall,"How do you find out if you're supposed to work on the holiday?" By going the day before and see if there is a sign up saying the store is closed for the holiday! Huzzahs to fearless leader for making use of dead tree technology. Wouldn't want to use that new fangled thingee called a telephone
Today looks like a simple menu of grilled boneless chicken breast, seasoned with a St Louis style rub, some fresh cole slaw (red wine vinegar & oil style) some kind of potato, and some collard greens. Tomorrow looks like grilled beef back ribs (the small bbq ready kind) and who knows what else. Remember last week when I mentioned I grilled some Italian turkey sausage, roasted some red peppers, and whole onions. Well I sliced up the sausage, sliced up the onions, peeled the roasted and sliced the roasted peppers, put em in a roasting pan added some vegetable stock mixed w corn starch, tossed em in the oven to warm up and served it over some couscous (first time making and tasting couscous) was pretty good I must say and hey the rest of the family is still alive,so that must be a good sign.
