Mid Week Muddle Through

From Previous post

Tap tap tap…Miles unlock the doors. Ok gimme a sec. Where’s the door lock c doors unlocked reconfiguring vehicle to manual mode What? Oh wait hey! As Miles was protesting the heads up display dissappeared, and an ignition slot with key intact appeared on the right side of the steering column, the windows reverted to tinted mode just as Johanson opened the rear hatch to load the luggage in. Tricia jumped in to the passenger seat as the kids,Rachel 12 and Kenneth 14 jumped in the rear with Johanson.

And now we continue

Hey hun glad you could make it on time. Tricia said as she put on her seatbelt. Miles is everything ok you seem a bit out of sorts.
Um right ok everybody strapped in? Lets get going. Ok Rover or whatever you are lets get a move on and get outta here. Miles spoke out and nothing happened. Miles are you Ok? Tricia you won’t believe this.
Um Miles maybe we can discuss what you were about to mention once we get to the house. Johanson commented from the back seat, plus the kids are tired. Oh right. Miles turned the key and put the Rover into gear and began the journey back .

Take a couple of onions and chop em,then set them aside. The grab a couple of heads of green cabbage about 4 lbs or so and chop up mthe rinse well in water. Now you are almost ready.

Wow L Double is rocking a dub of Anthony B A Jah World ala drum & bass style into A Sun Is Shining dub in the same vein. Gotta love those D&B djs from across the pond. But hey I digress.

Grab some chicken or vegetable stock, some vegetable oil, a couple of those dry peppers (chipoltle),minced garlic, kosher salt, black pepper, and maybe some sweet paprika. Pour the oil into the pot,and heat it on a medium high flame. Add onions and cook until carmelized, then add the peppers, and garlic and continue cooking.

So miles is this a company car because I don’t remember seeing this on the pamphlet? Um yeah you could say it’s a company car. With quite a few bells and whistles. Really like what asked Tricia? Well um I’m still trying to figure em out. Um Miles eyesy on road mumbled a nervous Johanson as the barey missed an overturned palm tree. Whew that was a close one sighed Miles. Right everyone make sure you strapped in well looks like a bumpy ride from hear out. Wow pops I see your still king of the understatement. Thanks Kenneth.

Monday Monday

Back from a lil jaunt to the land of the rising sun.......yeah right actually I posted elsewhere about my time away from this blog and everything else.

From previous post:

Mr. MacBride you may now open your eyes, we have made it pass the downed power cables unscathed Downed power cables!? Where the hell are we? Approximately 5 minutes away from Sinjin Municipal Airport 5 minutes you said it would take us an hour its only been 20 minutes. Mr. MacBride you requested speed and I fulfilled that request Um yeah right. When I adjusted the speed, you lost consciousness Um no I was just resting my eyes.

Destination reached, Sinjin Municipal Airport western arrival gates Well thanks um uh, the hell do I call you. My current designation is… breep breep breep incoming call from Mr. Johanson Miles where are you?
I am outside the western arrival gates of the airport.
Right we’re on our way out.
Ok..click

So my niece did her own thing this past Saturday and prepared the dinner. Her menu was two kinds of boneless chicken tenders, tossed green salad, potatoe salad, and green beans. Came out pretty good if I must say so. For Sunday since it was hella cold out there I put together a good sized pot of Chicken Stew with potatoes, onions, carrots, celery, black eyed peas, roasted garlic and much more. Sister hooked up some smothered greens (collards, turnip, and kale) with smoked turkey drumsticks for extra flavor. My nieced handled the desert duties, she made a strawberry short cake with whipped cream, and I think she did a special starwberry sauce or something like that. Later on this week looks like some smothered cabbage may be on the menu, plus catfish and whatever else comes to mind.

Was noddin the head to some Dwele the name of the track A Pimps Dream from the Some Kinda… release. Before that I was pumpin an Old School Mix from the Tom Joyner Morning show. Right about now I’m listening to a stream of DJ Hype on Kiss 100 actually its Ray Keith who’s filling in for an under the weather DJ Hype. Hmmm they really make use of the text messaging heavily across the pond.

Speaking of across the pond here’s a nice article in regards to failed efforts at voterregistration.

And what about over here and the Voting Rights Act? Hmm heres an article by way of [NorthJersey.com]

I know the whole idea of creating a place closed off to cars and open to pedestrians only sounds weak, espicially in this car focused culture, some will answer that’s what side walks are for. But what if there was such a place, maybe in a major city. I remember when a major part of my downtown area was like that,no vehicle traffic allowed. But that changed over the years after store owners complained. Read this piece by way of [Alternet.org].

So Mr Johanson, you still didn’t explain why you are here. I thought the company gave Miles some time off to spend it with his family.
We did give him time off Tricia, um its kind um uhh a…….working vaction.
You ruddy bastards and when was he going to tell us?!
Well actually this is going to be news to him also.

After a quick brine, rinse and pat dry the split chicken breasts. Grab the rest of your ingredients, fresh rosemary, minced garlic, Mrs. Dash, seasoning, granulated garlic, onion powder, cayene pepper, a dash of kosher salt and some extra virgin olive oil. Now you are ready. Hmmm maybe you may want to omit the pepper. That’s better. Wow some type of of roasted chicken dish on a Friday night instead of fish…hmmm well its not Lent yet. So far the weekend menu looks interesting. Sista mentioned something about doing a pot of turkey chili, Saturday not sure whats up with Sunday. I know I’ll be tired from the shoveling so it will have to be a mindless type of meal.

Mr. MacBride you may now open your eyes, we have made it pass the downed power cables unscathed Downed power cables!? Where the hell are we? Pre heat your oven to 350 or 325 if you aint in a rush. Grab a pan and coat it with some veg oil or some non stick spray. I used a glass pryrex thingee. Season ya split chix breast well. If you feel up to it, mix all of your dry ingredients together, then rub all over the chicken. Take the fresh rosemary and sprinkle over the chicken. Then drizzle some of that extra virgin olive oil over the chicken then place in the oven. If your bad at drizzlin like I am you may want to do what I did and invest in a olive oil sprayer.

As Mr. MacBride was fastening his seatbealt a map of his route was projected on the windshieldRoute to Sinjin Municipal Airport has been mapped out Mr MacBride. Current weather conditions have been taken into consideration. Adjusting vechicles exterior integrity to compensate for flying debri What the..as Macbride was about to finsh his sentence with a few choice words he noticed that all of the windows darkened. Well he thought that they had darkened. Upon closer inspection there seemed to be some type of portective plating sliding up from the doors and the windshields.

Mmmmmmm , smell that. Yeah that’s the garlic. So Sundays menu was kind of basic as I mentioned before roasted shoulder lamb chops smothered in sweet red peppers and onions with fresh rosemary. The kids were commenting on how good the kitchen smelled before I even popped the stuff in the oven. Had to be all those red peppers, onions, and smashed garluc cloves. Of course there were some other seasonings popped in. Some cummin. Yeah definitely getting a taste for that. But not usuing to much a little goes a long way unless your making chili. For vegggeis did some sauteed spiniach with some grated nutmeg, minced onions, minced galic, white pepper. Before I added the spinach I sauteed some chipotle peppers (gotta use em up) in with the onions. Tooke em out then added the spinach. Also roasted some carrots w a bit of kosher salt, pepper, balsamic vinegar, and extra virgin olive oil.

Now what I can’t see out of the bloody windows. Activating exterior cameras, please adjust heads up display with panel by your right hand Mr. MacBride Whoa more surprises…breep breep breep….hello

Mid Week Mambo-2

Was bored the other day so I decided to do some demolition work.

From previous post:

Miles just get out to that garage, insert your badge into the slot and make use of the equipment inside,we’re waiting for you. They want to close down the airport and they say that this building will not be safe to ride out the storm.
Ok Johanson so much for time away from the day job. I can’t believe this, where there hell is that garage, can barely see my a few meters in front of me with this wind and rain. Ummph! I didn’t even notice this thing on the way in, large as hell.

Ok there’s the bloody slot by the doorway, but how the hell will the door open with no power, considereing that was the first thing to go because of the storm breep breep breep… hello?
Just put your badge in the slot Miles
But the powers out in the whole blinkin area Johanson
Put your badge in the slot and step back.!
Whatever you say…inserting my badge.

Forgot mention that fresh thyme was also used in the braised turkey drumsticks dish.

Was thinking of doing a pork dish, even though I don’t eat the swine anymore I figured the rest of the fam would go for it. My brother pointed out an Asian inspired recipe for pork roast in a magazine he was reading at the hospital. Hmmm but I was thinking back to when I was much younger…whenever we would have roast pork shoulder we would also have applesauce with it. So I was thinking of maybe doing a pork loin w some type of apple chutney or maybe do some roasted cortland apple chunks, drizzled with a spicy honey glaze.

Jeesus Johanson the blinkin door just slid up into the ceiling…and wait a second some green lights are coming on in this hallway kind of like a lighted path or something.

Wow back from a week away. No didn’t do that. Moms had to go into the hospital so all focus was on that. Was posting more regularly Livejournal.com I’m a bit more focused there, not to vague and rambling.

From previous post:

Breep, Breep Breep..hmmm betcha corporate forgot to mention something else. Hello what the f..Miles! where are you we’re at the airport….

Bloody hell, Tricia I was just on the mobile with Johanson from coporate and lost track of…
Miles! Johansom is right here he’s the one who made sure we got through customs and everything. Now where are you?
Well Tricia I have bit of a problem here I have no transport and…. Miles Johanson here-you need to get out to that garage structure and make sure you have your ID badge its in the left pocket of your carry on.
What how did you know ….

Ingredients were as follows some turkey drum sticks, cummin, white pepper, chopped celerey, chopped onions, chopped celery, five garlic cloves smashed, dried peppers(chipoltle),tomatoe paste, chicken broth, flour, kosher salt.So yesterdays menu was Braised Turkey Drumsticks w sliced carrots, mashed potatoes, and garlic steamed broccoli. Tossed in some chipoltle peppers for some extra flavor, love that smokiness. Sista did up a good sized pot of chicken soup.

Miles just get out to that garage, insert your badge into the slot and make use of the equipment inside,we’re waiting for you. They want to close down the airport and they say that this building will not be safe to ride out the storm.

Winnndsday

As the wind whipped through the trees Charles watched heplessly as his custom made doggy igloo was tossed into the nearby marsh. Damn what a way to start a vacation he grumbled…

Take about two or three pounds of sweet (couldn’t find any hot) italian style turkey sausage, about six onions sliced thin, four large red peppers sliced into strips, six to seven maybe eight whole cloves of garlic (smash em a bit to release some flavor),italian seasoning, some flour, granulated garlic, vegetable oil, chicken broth or chicken stock two thin sliced potatoes, and some fresh basil, (both of those items I forgot) and a large casserole dish with a cover, lid or something like that. Now you are ready.

Charles stayed out on the deck and held on to the railing, the nearby trees were offereing some wind shelter but he realized that those weren’t going to last. He went inside to call the main office only to find that the phone lines were dead. He went to plan B and dug into his duffel bag for his satellite phone. Luckily he was able to get that through customs after a lengthy discussion with airport officials. He checked the charge and stepped outside into the storm to make a phone call.

If you haven heard yet Fearless Leader has had is day(s) and court and the outcome is as follows,he was fined $2500 which is payable over five years? And his lawyer fees are $7500..wooo hoo.

After getting the correct signal Charles contacts the home office and screams into the phone. How could you book my vacay to this spot during monsoon season. Bloody hell it looks like the main road is already washed out and I’m watching bits of this rental blow away.

LongWeekend

If you look closely you can see my hands sticking up from within the tree branches.

It’s the end of a long weekend, as went from wetness to windyness to whiteness(snow showers people) to a bone chillin hawk, remember that we have until March 20 for it to end. Well that is the first day of Spring but that hasn’t stopped mother nature from throwing some after season snowballs in the past.

Just stumbled across a dust covered Sister Nancy CD entitled One Two on the Techniques label circa 1999. She has some tune called Bam Bam, I wonder if it’s a Flinstones theme song off shoot. Well I’ll have to crack the shrink wrap to see if its Flinstones tune or not. I’ll let ya know whats up next week. Currently on repeat/alarm clock duty Simply Good Music Volume two. Looking forward to Volume Three. Right now I just listented to The Devil Is Sweet from Ayatollahs Upcoming release entitled Now Playing. Kind of haunting in its own way. Hmm lets see, a couple of pounds of ground beef, a couple of chopped onions, some elbow macaroni, tomato paste, sauce, italian seasoning, crushed red pepper flakes, minced garlic, and a bit of salt. Brown your beef and add the seasonings, while ya beef is browning get two pots out one for the sauce and a larger one for the pasta. Sautee the onions in the sauce pot and fill the pasta pot with water accoring to the amount listed on the side of the box. Once your onions are almost carmelized add the sauce and tomato paste, stir well and check ya beef.

While perusing the many channels being offered on cable I decided to make an attempt to re immerse myself in my culture figured I would peep whats on BET especially after reading this article from the times, then this article from Amercan Thinker and this article by way of [The Bible Of Hip Hop Blog]. But then I realised that really wouldn’t get that much culture, I would get entertainment. That’s what their title says,it doesn’t say education, enlightenment,or engrossing, it says entertainment and that’s what you’re going to get. Currently checking out a stream from the Soulheaven website. I think its from the Soul Heaven Presents Blaze release that came out last year. Good stuff there in that collection. Also about to check out a tune from Koushik fear Percee P entitled Cold Beats (cold heat megamix) courtesy of Stones Throw records.

Take a deep breath ,smell that. Well of course you can’t but if you was in my house today, yall would’ve caught the aroma of of some beef ribs covered w a st louis style of dry rub seasoning slowly cooking in the oven. Have to go through all of that all in one seasoning stuff so I can start making it fresh and without the salt. Finishing off the ribs with some.......bbq sauce. Earlier this week (Sunday) did a Chicken stew w carrots, celery, onion, some ,corn, lima beeans, green beans, peas, red peppers,a bit of pasta shells, and various seasonings, like minced garlic,a lil bit of cummin, pepper, some Mrs dash etc… I know i should've dumped in some of the leftover black eyed peas but completely zoned out for a bit. Last year I was just chillin on the coast and I woke up to this....yeah right

Hmmm the first post of the New year. Biiiig F>>> deal. Currently checkin out a stream by none other than Shy FX. From his digital soundboy website. Yeah it was done in November but it still has quite a few Wicked tunes. He started things off with some ragga style jungle dubplates then moved into some jump up style! Oh wait I was supposed to start mentioning more hip hop orientated suff. Ummmmm yeah riiiiight. Maybe I’ll start a little thing of CD’s that deserved to be run over by an Acela Train.

So the menu for his past Sunday was indeed pigs feet, black eyed peas, roast leg of lamb w roasted potatoes and onions. Was going to do the whole root veggy thing but the budget wasn’t there. Maybe next time around. Also did up some spinach. To prep the leg of lamb I took a long piece of rope and tied to one end of the lamb, then stepped out side in the parking lot and proceeded to swing the lamb overhead while my niece blasted an airhorn at 4 minute intervals

So today we’re currently in the middle of a Noreaster, and this is a pretty weak one at that. We’re getting rain mixed with snow with makes for a fun removal experience. Nexxt Day.

If you look at the above picture closely you might actually be able to see me holding up a protest sign.

Hmmm whats this?
While straightening out a few of the electrical cords, I stumbled across a cd. It features Sizzla, Chrisinti,Turbulence,Abijah,Chezidek, and Natural Black, plus a few others. Had to pop it in to get my monthly dose of reggae. Reggae Now Vol. 3 is the title of this particular collection of tunes on Bogaluusa records. And because that wasn’t enough, I dug into one of the piles of doom and found another dose of reggae. This one featured King Tubby,Prince Jammy, Big Youth, The Congos,Jackie Mitto and a few others. This collection highlighted one particular label out of the UK. Put together by the label founder the CD by the name of Run It Red has 20 tracks of quality tunes from the Blood and Fire Label.

Pre-heat ya oven to 425 or so,take a good sized potatoe, scrub it clean. Grab your mandolin slicer and julienne the potatoe, rinse and let drain in a strainer.take a half of an onion and julienne that also, set that aside. Grab a small pan and spray w some non stick spray, then heat it up on a medium high flame,Add some vegetable oil, once the oil is hot enough add the potatoes, season with kosher salt and pepper. Let the potaoes brown for a bit,add the onions and mix em well with potatoes, let em brown for a bit, while they are browning grab a couple of eggs, some milk or cream. Mix the egg and milk or cream mixture in a bowl with a whisk or fork, pour on top of the potatoe onion mixture. Using a spoon or spatula ,pull the eggs away from the edges, you don’t wanna scramble, you just want to see those curds or whatever start forming. Once the mixture starts firm a bit place it in the oven for….damn I forgot to time it oh well, just watch it rise …..

Well looks lik the folks at Sonee/bmgee have decided to face the music …yeah that was an awful pun…But I wonder if it may be too late? I would be hella wary of buying any of that labels stuff for a long time. Like I’m actually gong to by a cd anytime soon.

Monday Mambo

Contrary to popular belief I was not in bolivia last week even though i may or may not be in the picture above.

Currently bobbin the dome to a a nice lil cd entitled Soul Heaven Presents Jazzy Jeff In the House. Nice collection of tunes. Like the fact that he started off the cd with some Temptations.

Yeah took lil step away from the posting thing thing for a number of reasons. One was I put in some extra hours at my weekend spot last week. Thurs & Fri, its was interesting to say the least running the board for the talent while they were at a local mall broadcasting live.

One more holiday to go. Yesterdays menu wasn’t as large as turkey day. We had a small roast turkey (got to use the fun thermometer), spiral sliced spiced ham (booo swine) mac and cheese, stuffing, greens (collards, kale, turnip),stuffing, and sweet potatoes w some apples mixed in. Desert was pies and a homemade poundcake that the niece did w a lil help from her moms. She also did up some sugar cookies earlier in the week. New Years day menu is still up in the air. We usually have pigs feet w black eyed peas. Well they do I stopped eating swine a long time ago about the same time I picked up the koraan…I’m kidding about picking up the book . Hmm if not pigs feet maybe a herb roasted leg of lamb w roasted root vegetables.,maybe served over cous cous, with some spicy gravy. Hmmmmmm

Much thanks to____ over at_____ ______ in Brooklyn for the check in the other day. It’s a good thing that you didn’t have to go far to get to work during that short ass strike. Not sure if I can post his name, maybe I‘ll do it when I get around to the whole do I really miss it post about the store. I did find out some interesting things in regards to Fearless Leader and the outcome of his various court dates.

I’m aboot oops still got the accent eh! I mean I’m about to pop in the mx CD that came with the Stones Throw 101 dvd. A nice way to start off things. And since yall clicked the link for the 101 DVD you might as way click this one for info on Jdillas new one due out in Feb and if you are really fiendin for it you can put in a pre order at this website here. Almost made a sarcastic remark about pre-orders, but I wont go there.

Well the Lamb Chops with the roasted fennel & pablano peppers didn’t happen. Have you seen the prices of peppers? Damn! Had to settle for some smothered cube steaks served over egg noodles. Still trying to figure out the holiday menu. I know sista has requested spiral ham…oh joy swine. Still working on the other meat item. Thank the spirits that meal wont be a huge affair (food wise) like turkey day. According to the preliminary shopping list we may have mac & cheese, greens, and something elese. Im leaning more towards hamburgers with sauteed oinions and mushrooms but that wouldn't be appreciated for a holiday meal. Oh well.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekend!

What a week cold temps and a mess of a storm. Currently checking out a stream of DJ flights latest show from 1xtra. Was supposed to have a special guest but problems arose so no guest for this show. After that i went on to check out what was up on L-Doubles show.

Gotta love the weekly storms of aggrivation that mother nature seems to be throwing at us. The one that passed through yesterday had similar makings of the spectacular one from last week. But we were on the warm side this time around. We did get some ice hella early, believe me it was fun trying to walk in it,but then it changed to rain and temps actually got up to 50 for a bit and we had wee bit of tha dank mist for a while.

Kind of missed this release Well I didn’t miss to much. It’s a shame they didn’t Include Simon Says By Mr. Monch or End To End Burner from Co flo.

Here’s an article by way of [AlterNet]of a womans struggle in the not so big easy. Damn

Thursday Option 1

Ah back again after a brief hiatus. Went to Alberta to escape it all for wee bit. Its amazing what you can do with some well placed phone calls and incriminating photos. Yaaaay freedom!

Cold enough for ya? Try walking in it. Hopefully by the time this gets posted the cold will have given way to some thing else.

Increase the flavor

Did a small batch of Jerked chicken thighs, and sistats missed out, plus the nephew didn’t think it was spicy enough. So….

Take some boneless chicken breasts and rinse well in cold water then pat dry. Grab a sharp chefs knife or a good santoku knife and slice into breast at a slant, try not to cut allk they way through. Places partially sliced breast into a ziploc plastic bag, take out your handy dandy jar of graace jerk seasoning/paste add a few (a heavy few) teaspoons to ya zip lock bag, and also a few teaspoons of allspice. And if yo have em some freshlly chopped green onions. Force all the air out of the bag then seal it. Knead rub manipulate the bag well until the chicken is well coated. Place in the refrig and let marinate over night. Now you are ready.
